(1) I don’t know if this is one of your options, but I believe that “units produced” should be the answer for (E) Quality control and possibly (A).
(2) (3) Sorry, I can’t be any help with these two.
(4) I believe this question wasn’t clear (I’ve found it happens a lot). I think it was supposed to have read “Activity-based costing is most appropriate to use when DIRECT labor costs are a ?. In which case, the answer would be (A).
(5) I’m not sure about (A), but both B and C are true. This would mean that (D) is correct.
(6) A, B, and C, are all false, so (D) is correct

Good luck

Probability. Please help!?

Question by Max: Probability. Please help!?
An injection molding process leaves an average of 1.3 defects per bumper. Let Y and Z be the next two bumpers produced. Use an appropriate prob. function to evaluate:
a.)P[Y=2]
b.)P[Y>=1]
c.)sqr(Var Y)
d.)P[Y+Z>=2]

The problem does NOT say that it follows a normal distribution. This is quite literally all it gives. I’m assuming that this problem has something to do with the probability of 2 independent factors–I’ve looked at the section they are from but can’t find a thing. There are solutions if you have a standard deviation, but there wasn’t one given so I don’t know how to go about these. I have a normal distribution approx. table but I’m not sure if I can use it, or even how in this situation.

Answer by M3
the poisson distribution will be appropriate here. the formula is

P[x] = e^-m * m^x / x!

qa
m = 1.3, x = 2
P[2] = e^-1.3 * 1.3^2 /2!
= .2303
————

qb
P[>=1] = 1 – P[0] = 1 – e^-1.3 * 1.3^0 /0!
= .7275
———–

qc
variance of a posson distribution = m
sqrt(variance Y) = sqrt(1.3)
= 1,14
———

qd
for [Y+Z] , m = 2.6
applying the formula,
P[>=2] = 1 – { P[0] + P[1] }
= 1 – { e^-2.6 + e^-2.6*2.6/1! }
= .7326

I don’t understand your question.

At Flexible Products Corp. we have started to sell(?) our vulcanized urethane waste/runners to a recycler.

Even if we just gave it them, its better than the land fill.

Statistics and Probability….Help Please???

Question by kelz: Statistics and Probability….Help Please???
Two different types of injection-molding machines are used to form plastic parts. A part is considered defective if it has excessive shrinkage or is discolored. Two random samples, each of size 300, are selected, and 16 are defective parts are found in the sample from machine 1 while 8 defective parts are found in the sample from machine 2. Is it reasonable to conclude that both machines produce the same fraction of defective parts?

(a) Is it reasonable to conclude that both machines produce the same fraction of defective parts? Use alpha 0.05

(b) Construct a 95% confidence interval on the difference in the two fractions defective.

Best answer:

Answer by Blah
Construct the confidence interval in part b first. If the difference in proportion defective lies outside the interval, then it is NOT reasonable to conclude that they are the same.

To construct the confidence interval:
Calculate the proportion defective and standard deviation (using the binomial formula for stdev) for each machine.

Calculate the difference in proportion defective. Then calculate the standard deviation of the difference by taking the square root of the sum of the individual standard deviations squared. I.e. S_diff = sqrt (s1^2+s2^2).

The Z-value (switching to the normal distribution) corresponding to .475 (half of 95%) is 1.96 (memorize this number — you will use it often). The confidence interval of the difference about a mean of 0 (we’re interested in whether they defect rate is the same — meaning that the difference is zero) is between -1.96*S_diff (rounded to the nearest integer) and +1.96*S_diff (rounded to the nearest integer).

nose bleeds (please read details before answering)?

Question by shepdawg5000: nose bleeds (please read details before answering)?
I have had nose bleeds since I was about 6 years old. It always seems to happen at the change of the seasons when I get them. Sometimes, I have it where they last a minute, other times they can last up to half an hour. I know how to stop them when I get them, but I would like to know a permenant solution to prevent them altogether weather that be surgery (as a last resort) or preferably some natural solution. Also, I do not take multi-vitamins(yet) and I have a humifier on when I am at home. It seems I get a nose bleed once I leave my house and when I am at work (I work in a plastic injection molding plant). Whenever there is reduced humidity, my whole body gets dry and fells like my body is dehydrated even though I drink about a gallon of water a day, not including the two glasses of o.j. and glass of milk or two. Please help!

Best answer:

Answer by mlgable
Your nosebleeds seem to be from the dry air since you state they are seasonal mostly. Use a humidifier in every room in your house/apartement and use vaseline aka petroleum jelly in your nostrils several times a day to help keep them moist. Keep a small tube in your pocket to use at work since the air is probably dry there too. You do need to get on a good multivitamin and a good antioxidant supplement to keep your immune system healthy.
