VW Beetle L-Jetronic Fuel Injection

We’re setting up an original usa L-Jetronic fuel injection system. Could anyone tell if the spray pattern is normal, or should it be wider? The injectors are new unused aftermarket versions, as seen on the picture in the end. Just wondering if those white plastic thingies should be there, or should they be removed? I mean, they do affect the spray pattern, don’t they?

engine knocks,shakes,misses,and was hard to start after changing the manifold.the engine ran beautiful prior to me doing it.v8 4.6 plastic manifold…people told me the only thing critical to changing this manifold was the torque specks..i followed those,but it seems like 1 of my ejectors or spark plug wires are crossed? but its not popping or spitting back.can someone pls tell me what the problem is or seems like to you? ty

Whether plastic or metal, the intake could have a crack in it, the gaskets may not be sealing, you missed a vacuum hose, etc.

With no back fire, the firing order may be ok, so investigate serious vacuum leaks first.

how to make the fuel injection work?, can i just plug,or vent the egr to the throttle body.? can i use a plastic fuelcell,with an inline fuel pump,?
im preatty auto savy but i lack a little in some fields. i have the complete wiring harness,with copmuter for the trans and engine. i have it all together now in the car evrything is pluged were it needs to be pluged. minus the ignition switch i wanna wire it diffrent in the dash were it belongs i want the car to look almost original but not quiet im using my stock steering column. so all of my concerns are the fuel pump, lines, gas tank the gas tank on the yukon was garbage so i need an [in line fuel injection fuel pump] ive seen them on ebay but im unsure what pressure rating to get, and i need to know if i can use a plastic gas tank with a [vented fuelcap] to run my fuel injection. and if i can use fuel injection rubber hose and clamps at some ends to save time and bending. and this truck had the EGR hose from the manifold going to the exhaust can i just plug it or put it on my throttle body. i dont want the car to run bad any advise u have is appreciated thanx

you will need the entire wiring harness, or you can buy a harness but I’m not sure that they make one other than for a early model injected chevy…you will need the ecm,and any trans wiring and ecm’s that are drive train related…this will be a good project, check out painless wiring…if anyone has this wiring harness … they do..other than that get friendly with the guy at the salvage yard ……who can save you lots of money and time looking for ods and ends…so you have a lot of work ahead other than what u asked in your question

as well as companys that offer upgrade parts for this type of engine,these old ford trucks are all steel and tuff as nails no plastic junk ,but they love gas, so far i have looked at a offenhouser intake that claims to improve fuel economy, i was thinking maybe to mix a newer aluminum intake with a factory fuel rail injection system and wire in the computor and other parts from a later model truck motor, i realize i would have to boar the holes for the injectors and build the air inlet control parts from other units, but all in all can this be done and what other problems could i run in to, also the fire to the plugs ? maybe a mag type distributor or what, iv’e had this truck since back when i was in school and really want the mpg to improve as well as dependable for long trips, later i want to give to my son when everything is problem free, if anyone out their can give me solid info it would really make my day, thanks so much for your help.

Your best bet is to obtain a “donor” vehicle. Get a wrecked 2000 and up F-series truck with let’s say a 5.4L SOHC V8 with a 4R100 transmission. That would be an EXCELLENT combination. The horsepower & torque of that drivetrain would easily surpass your 351M. Just make sure you get EVERYTHING, and wire it in accordingly. You could even fabricate your suspension to accept the 4-wheel disc brake set-up depending how handy and creative you are. Hope this helps.

I had a new timing belt put on prior to this but has never had any power since. I had the engine totally overhauled about a year ago and it ran fine but since I replaced the timingbelt it hasn’t ran right sence. there is no power at all. I replaced the PCV valve but still get oil back in the breather area from breather to fuel injector.The engine shuts off real fast like its to tight and there is oil that drips on the floor, uses about a half quart every 30 or 40 miles.There is blue smoke that comes out periodically but not all the time.There is a small water leak on the floor, could this be from the water pump leaking on the timing belt ,and cause the timing belt to jump time.Sometime it is hard to start when you turn it off so I let run to get back home. Have put new plugs and coil wire in it. What could be my problem. THANKS

Do a compression check.Sounds like excessive blow-by in one of the cylinders,,;-(=
